Carlisle maybe the most southerly station server by Scot-rail, but you arrive via a non Scot-rail route and Its in England. the most southerly Scottish station is Stranraer, so you should have either gone to Stranraer or Carlisle by Scot-rail over the old G&WS line via Dumfires

Pointless Journey ideas: (if you have the time, ill wait as long as possible, were both uni students) - Canterbury East to Canterbury West (or the other way around) -folkstone West to Folkestone Central, but go the other direction. -Waterloo to Waterloo East -

I love you adventures and the comments below give me quite a chuckle. All the people talking about ;4 hour train rides being tiring. Here in North America a 4 hour ride would be considered short. But we do have a lot longer distances to cover (and slower trains)

The longest distance between stations is officially Lockerbie to Carstairs but an argument could be made for it being Lockerbie to Kirknewton as the trains diverge before passing through Carstairs station

My father used to live at Strathpeffer next town was Dingwall, where he lived he could hear the trains passing to and from Thurso. Sadly he passed away in 2018.

I love how they used to love how they used to the same northern train from Carlisle to Scotland that they ran from Darlington to Carlisle via Newcastle upon Tyne for both services they literally have the same drivers the only difference is that at Carlisle they put a food service trolley on it and then they take it off at Carlisle on the return trip since northern don’t run catering services and Scot rail do. At one point in the late 2010’s that was a genuine thing. Those pacers were bloody awful in the late 2010’s since they were shared with both northern and scotrail and they used to run them directly out of Darlington via Newcastle to Carlisle. We’re as cold as hell

Doing the Highland Chieftain Southbound all the way from Inverness to Kings Cross. However I chose the Sunday service as it means I get almost an additional two hours in bed before I get the train. Also I was lucky with the fare, I paid £88 (with railcard) for a First Class ticket (much better than the £169 plus baggage that Easyjet wanted).

You cheater! Should've gone to Glasgow and got a Scotrail train from Glasgow Central to Carlisle. To be fair I don't blame you because it would be on a 156 cattle truck down via Stranraer. But still, not all Scotrail.

I live in Blackpool and I love riding the trams. By the way there is a new line open connecting the normal line to north station I went to the open day last week

My Gran works at Helmsdale station in those cabins in the back of the shot so made me very happy to see you get out and appreciate how nice it is up there!

Surely this journey should have been made using ScotRail trains throughout, also perhaps to Annan, the southernmost station actually in Scotland.

I think Kirknewton to Lockerbie is a longer run with no stations -- you don't go close enough to Carstairs to count it as a station that you pass. But since when is Carlisle a station in Scotland? You could have taken a local train back to Annan, which is the southernmost station that actually has trains at the moment, or waited until next week when Stranraer reopens and reclaims its title!

Tighter rule suggestion. When going between extremities of one single franchise, use only trains operated by that particular franchise. Scotrail it probably would not have worked anyways, but the others are smaller...

Also, one point to point I was attempting was London Charing Cross to Charing Cross (Glasgow) . Alas my train was terminated at Preston. Overhead wire problems at Penrith

International Point to point journeys. Boston Lincs to Boston USA or Perth Scotland to Perth Australia, Bangor Wales to Bangor N. Ireland

I think if you have left the platform and gone outside of the station you have visited, period. I do consider it a bit of a 'cheat' calling it a 'visit' if all you did was get off the train and remained on the platform then got on the same train which hasn't gone anywhere else in the meantime. Can you imagine somebody pressing the request stop at every station on the Cambrian coast line, just so they can step off the train and then back on?
